Our Mission Statement
The Junior League of Houston, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Our Members
The Junior League of Houston is a committed corps of approximately 5,000 trained volunteers dedicated to “Building A Better Community.”
Throughout their membership, JLH volunteers participate in a comprehensive, hands-on training and education program focused on promoting leadership skills and addressing community issues. This is accomplished through the League's long-term involvement with established organizations such as the Houston Food Bank and Star of Hope that directly impact basic needs.
Each year, approximately 275 provisional members participate in a rigorous JLH education and training program, and service projects through Texas Children’s Hospital.
Approximately 1,500 active members each serve at least 72 volunteer hours in a JLH community or administrative project.
Beyond their active League years, sustaining members continue to serve the League and the community through their leadership and participation in a variety of service activities and nonprofit projects.
Our Results
This year, the League will contribute more than $2 million in volunteer time and direct financial support to the Houston community. The League provides trained volunteers and funding to more than 34 community projects. In addition, the League’s community outreach efforts include Community Assistance Grants, Emergency and Resource Contingency Grants, Community Collaboration, and Outside Board Representatives.
